Overview Substitute Teacher role at Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools. Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction (ACAGJ). FLSA Status: Non-Exempt. Reports to: Headmaster. Work Hours/Days: AS NEEDED – School days from 7:10 to 3:30. Are you passionate about classical education and supporting the culture of a growing classical charter school? We are looking for a substitute teacher who can support our school by serving as a substitute whenever a teacher is out. The ideal candidate will be a results-driven team player with the capacity to manage multiple projects and thrive in a dynamic environment. Responsibilities Follow lesson plans to teach and supervise classes as needed on a daily basis Respond promptly to teacher requests for a substitute teacher Communicate with teachers by leaving notes on the day’s events, progress, or challenges, including substitute teacher binders and lesson plan needs Build positive relationships with students by holding them to high standards of conduct Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information When no substitute teachers are needed, assist with daily operations such as supervision of beginning and end-of-day routines and procedures, lunch and recess times, and other transitional periods, and provide other instructional support in and out of the classroom Maintain collegial, professional relationships with colleagues and staff Perform other related duties as required Qualifications Commitment to the mission and vision of ACACS Commitment to high moral character necessary to sustain ordered liberty and constitutional self-government High school diploma or equivalent Adherence to all school policies Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Regular and punctual attendance Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with team members School experience preferred Physical Requirements Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds Must be able to traverse the classroom and the school Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer Must be able to supervise outdoor duties Background Checks and Compliance Mandatory background checks: all candidates must undergo a comprehensive background check, including fingerprinting, with findings that may disqualify employment in a school setting (e.g., convictions for violent crimes, offenses against children, drug-related offenses, certain felonies, or misdemeanors).
