Chemical Safety Leader - Senior Corporate Safety Engineer
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Chemical Safety Leader provides direct support for culture, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives related to occupational safety across all global Chemical Division sites. This role is also responsible for secondary support of OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance and will serve as a corporate-level resource to site EHS and operational teams.
This position reports to the Corporate Safety Director and requires frequent travel to U.S. chemical manufacturing sites.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead implementation of corporate safety standards across all chemical sites, ensuring alignment with OSHA and Milliken EHS expectations.
Act as subject matter expert (SME) for:
Lockout/Tagout/Tryout (LOTO) programs
Line break and confined space entry procedures
Fall protection and working-at-heights programs
Industrial hygiene monitoring and controls
Lead and coordinate safetyrisk-reductionprojects across chemical manufacturing sites.
Serve as the corporate lead for OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) initiatives.
Support incident investigations and root-cause analyses; develop corrective and preventive actions.
Facilitate safety audits, pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR), and behavioral safety observations.
Support the evaluation of new product chemical hazards in partnership with the Development team.
Develop and manage a Center of Excellence for safety leaders to share best practices and training.
Deliver training in key areas (HazCom, CPR/First Aid, emergency response, confined space, etc.).
Integrate newlyacquiredsites into Milliken's EHS systems and daily management processes.
Maintain and analyze data using the company's EHS reporting system and develop performance metrics.
QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
Bachelor's degree in Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related discipline.
Minimum 7 years of safety experience in a chemical manufacturing or process industry environment.
Demonstrated workingknowledge of OSHA regulations to include PSM (Process Safety management).
Proventrack recordleading or implementing Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, or Industrial Hygiene programs.
Strong communicationand presentation skills withthe abilityto influence at multiple organizational levels.
This position requires candidates to be eligible to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship for a work visa (e.g., H-1B, TN, etc.).
QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED
Advanced degree (M.S. in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Chemical Engineering).
Professional certifications: CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent.
Experience leading VPP Star certification or major safety program implementations.
Familiarity with ISO 45001, RC14001, or ISO 9001 management systems.
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
Proficient in PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint for data tracking and reporting.
TRAVEL
This role requires approximately 25% overnight travel to U.S. locations, depending on the status and needs of ongoing initiatives. International travel may berequiredon an as-needed basis.
Two chemical manufacturing siteslocatedwithin daily driving distance in Upstate South Carolina will require weekly visits to support and oversee safety initiatives.
Tofacilitateboth day and overnight travel, Milliken's aviation department provides shuttle flights to various U.S. sites, enhancing accessibility and efficiency.
