As we prepare to welcome a full-time pastor, we are seeking a Music Director to partner closely with pastoral leadership to shape and grow our worship life. This is an opportunity to build something meaningful from the ground up in a warm, small-church setting where music is a cornerstone of worship and community.
*Position Summary*
The Music Director is responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading the musical aspects of worship at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Working in partnership with the pastor and church council, this role involves selecting appropriate music, accompanying worship, and encouraging the congregation’s active participation in praise and song.
The ideal candidate will be a musician with a heart for ministry, a collaborative spirit, and a desire to help build a vibrant worship experience in a growing ELCA congregation.
*Key Responsibilities*
* Plan and lead music for weekly worship services and special liturgical celebrations in collaboration with the pastor.
* Select hymns, liturgical music, and special songs that reflect the themes of the service and the ELCA tradition.
* Provide accompaniment on organ, piano, or keyboard during services.
* Encourage and support volunteer musicians and singers, creating an inviting space for participation.
* Coordinate and prepare special music offerings (seasonal services, Christmas, Easter, community events, etc.).
* Manage music resources and ensure appropriate licensing and copyright compliance.
* Maintain and care for musical instruments and equipment.
* Collaborate with the pastor and council to develop a long-term vision for Redeemer’s worship music program.
*Qualifications*
* Proficiency in keyboard and/or organ playing (ability to lead congregational singing strongly preferred).
* Strong knowledge of church music within the Lutheran or similar liturgical tradition.
* Ability to work collaboratively with pastoral and lay leadership.
* Creative, flexible, and organized in planning music for both traditional and occasional contemporary worship.
* Comfortable recruiting, encouraging, and leading volunteer musicians of varying skill levels.
* A heart for ministry and a commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive worship environment.
*Hours & Compensation*
* Part-time to start, with the potential to grow into a full-time position as the church and worship program develop.
* Compensation commensurate with experience and budget; negotiable upon hire.
