The Life Science Research Professional 1 will conduct independent experiments focusing on microbiome interactions with diet and the immune system, using advanced molecular biology techniques. Responsibilities include experimental planning, data analysis, lab maintenance, and assisting with training and documentation. This role supports gastrointestinal and liver disease research within an academic lab environment specializing in microbiome science.
The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology has a long tradition of major contributions in basic research, a new commitment to clinical and outcomes research, a track record of training fellows for academic careers, and a longitudinal commitment to providing care for patients with complex gastrointestinal and liver diseases.
The Spencer Lab focuses on developing and applying novel technologies to advance microbiome science, with a focus on the understudied small intestine, whose ecology is altered across many gastrointestinal disorders. The gut microbiota—dense, diverse microbes inhabiting the GI tract—drives host metabolism, xenobiotic processing, and defense against pathogens. Since stool reflects distal colonic communities, we utilize a capsule-based device to specifically sample small intestinal microbiota in humans.
We are excited to announce a unique opportunity to join our newly established lab at Stanford. We are hiring a Life Science Research Professional 1 to assist with basic functions and activities across defined research projects. The successful candidate will conduct and analyze experiments independently within the Spencer Lab, focusing on the interactions between diet, microbiome, and the immune system.
