SUMMARY
The Certificated Flight Instructor provides flight instruction including preflight and post flight briefings to Flight Students as assigned. The primary responsibilities are to ensure quality of instruction and student progress for flight students enrolled in flight lab courses for private pilot, instrument, commercial, certificated flight instructor, certificated flight instructor‑instrument, and multi‑engine in accordance with CAU’s Part 61 / 141 courses and training syllabi.
This position ensures that the student and University’s interests for meeting course objectives and progress goals are met. These interests include standardized instruction, student scheduling, record keeping and most importantly contributing to an environment that offers an overall safe operation. The position influences on time student progress through properly scheduling students, instructing flight lessons including pre‑briefs, inflight and de‑briefs. The CFI will endorse student records as appropriate. The position follows and manages accountabilities with all CAU rules and regulations, to include CAU Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Flight Information Files (FIF’s) and upholds the philosophy and mission of CAU while instilling a positive and progressive attitude in all students.

Responsible for compliance with all local, state, accreditation, and federal regulations
Ensure completeness, accuracy, and security of flight operation records, documents, and reports
Ensure and maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
Responsible for complete and accurate timekeeping
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Conduct all duties and responsibilities ethically and professionally
Maintain the highest ethical and professional standards in education
Conduct all duties and responsibilities to achieve a win‑win situation for students and the University
Responsible for 1‑10 students as assigned
Manage student progress and completion goals according to the academic term schedule / calendar (Roadmap)
Ensure student flight scheduling is pacing to meet the term course objectives (minimum 2 activities per week)
Conduct flight instruction lessons to meet University and ACS standards
Ensures Compliance with University course syllabi (Academic)
Ensures Compliance with University approved Training Course Outline (FAA) lessons in Talon ETA
Ensures Compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
Ensures accurate flight records for each student (currency, qualifications, and other flight related records)
Record lesson notes as required in Talon ETA
Report and manage student attendance as required
Motivate students to accomplish flight lab course goals
Manage student relationships to ensure maximum effectiveness
Recommend student corrective action plans
Attend team meetings as required
Report safety issues using University Safety Management System (SMS) WBAT
Other duties as assigned
